Floods
| |
In November, 1927 a big flood covered much of Hatfield and caused lots of damage.
In March, 1986 another flood caused 150 people to evacuate their homes. In the 1936
flood you could ride a boat down Main Street. In North Hatfield people found
their furniture bumping up against the ceilings. The town was a mess. The sun
dried the silt and it blew everywhere.

| In 1936, a flood struck Hatfield. The people in the houses had to evacuate because of the flood. Furniture was bumping against the ceiling on the first floor of some houses. You could ride a boat down Main St. Some animals were injured and some animals were washed upon porches. After the flood the town was such a mess. Dust and dried silt was blowing everywhere. The dirt got in the cattle’s eyes and the farmers had to wash them. Allison |
