Smith Academy opened their doors in 1872. New Smith Academy built in 1980. Thirty-five boys and twenty-five girls attended. All teachers were females. The bell weighed 1,000 pounds. They rang it in between class. Smith Academy had nine classrooms. Smith Academy has kept pace in times. Smith Academy was not only educational institution. there was a fire at Smith Academy. | Sophia Smith left money to benefit the school. She believed that both boys and girls must have equal advantages in school.
